Random from Favourites

The favorites are a collection of both pictures that have been genuinely improved through critique, as well as various "serious" artworks that may serve as an example and/or a source of inspiration.
Hello everyone,

This is a general notification that concerns the purpose of the 'Featured' folder. All of the other folders are pretty self-explanatory - Studies and Practice, Finished Works, etc. The Featured folder, however, is something that I need to clarify in terms of its function.

:star:The Featured folder is a folder dedicated to works that the founder selects for display. These works are selected due to their exemplary display of improvement for the original artist, or displays a helpful tool for others to access and learn from.

:star:The Featured folder is NOT a folder to submit to when you are selecting work to submit to SeriousArtists.

:star:If your work is submitted to the Featured folder, it will be declined with a comment on the reason for its rejection or, unfortunately, ignored until it expires
(I often am the one to accept the art submissions, and I sometimes do not have the time to take care of them properly).

If you have been declined due to submitting to the Featured folder, please do not take it personally, and re-submit your work in any of the other available folders in accordance to your intent.

Thank you for reading this, and I hope you all have a pleasant day!

Best regards,
~Leccathu Furvicael

Who are we?

Serious Artists is, as you may have guessed from the title, a club created by, with and for serious artists. These are artists who take their craft seriously, who understand what it takes to become a good, or perhaps even a great artist and have the drive and will to get there.

This is a place were such artists may come together to be inspired, to give and receive critique and to encourage. Know that this is not a place for a pat on the back, unless you truly deserved one.

PLEASE READ: If you are trying to join, be sure to provide us with a small explanation on why you would like to be a part of this group. I'm also encouraging you to tell us a bit about yourself and what you are striving for as an artist. This helps us to get an idea of your sincerity and of course it's nice to know a little more about who is joining!

Empty join requests may be declined without further explanation.

Rules:

Members, contributors as well as the founder of this club are serious about art, about their own and other people's improvement. It speaks for itself that there is no level of quality required, but if you can't give or take critique well, then this is probably not the group for you. Remember that any critique given to you is an attempt to help you improve, not to make you feel bad or discourage you. Even if you don't agree with the critique, it is still all good intent so be curt.

Work submitted to this gallery must (obviously) be your own. Once submitted, it is automatically subject to critique in whatever form. It helps if you point out a specific area you're having trouble with. We do not accept literature work as we can't provide proper critique on it. Our group's focus lies on visual art only.

Giving inappropriate critique or "butthurt" responses to genuine critique will result in removal of your membership or in severe cases even a ban. You may also want to read these pointers on critique to get you started.

Although I would think this is logical, if someone took the time to write a critique for you, be sure to let them know you read it. If we feel that you aren't being serious about the critique or if you ignore it, we will send you a reminder. Fail to respond to that and there's a big chance you will be removed from the group. Please don't waste people's time like that.

Members may only submit 1 piece a day to prevent flooding (and honestly, one genuine critique a day should give you plenty of material to think about and work with).

Hm.. would you guys give critique if I requested it for a specific deviation? I know there are some outstanding people here who know their stuff, so I figured it'd be worth the shot.

the idea for the group is that if they're after a critique, they can submit it to the group, and we'll probably do it. if you see something out there you strongly feel deserves one, first ask in their comments if they'd welcome one,

...and then give it to them!

critiquing is a great way to really learn the dynamics and hold yourself accountable to the advice you're giving, so it's good for you. it's like vegetables.

Well, I'm actually seeking a critique for one of my deviations. But I didn't exactly know how this all worked, so I decided to seek some clarification first. ^^;

Ah, alright. I once wanted to join, but was not able to under the reason of not being able to submit enough, often enough.

It's not a problem if you can't submit much, honestly. So long as when you do submit something, you'll also give critiques to other people every now and then :). Give and receive!
